- African-Americans have the highest diabetes rates of 12% compared to 7% for the general population
- African-Americans have the lowest life expectancy of residents in King County (77.1 years vs. 81.6 for overall population)
- African-Americans have the highest rates of hypertension (33% of African-Americans vs. 25% for overall population),
Reasons why you should attend the forum:
- Free blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes screening for anyone attending. Know your numbers and take control of your health.
- Learn how to prevent and control diabetes through nutrition and physical activity. Learn how to live a healthy lifestyle.
- There will be Information on how to obtain health insurance, access to basic food, health & dental services, and information on breast, cervical, colon and kidney health. Learn how to access the services you may need.
- Join a Weekend Walking Club to increase physical activity and to improve their health. Increase your physical activity while meeting new people.
- Opportunity to learn about community health resources, including programs offered by the YMCA. Learn about resources in the community.
